iD – A global online iPhone film festival
Mobile technology means film making happens in the moment, more than ever, for millions of people every day. At the forefront of emerging technologies, the iPhone is fastbecoming the tool of choice for industry professionals. At iD we are pushing the boundaries of what is creatively possible. iD is the first of it’s kind as it is truly global, and completely online.
WHO ARE WE?
Our team is comprised of iPhone fanatics who are professionals from within the filmindustry and allied creative industries. Directors of cinematography, editors, designers, film technicians, graphic and conceptual designers, programmers and IT infrastructure experts have joined together to undertake this inaugural iPhone International Film Festival.
WHAT IS OUR GOAL?
The development of apps and iPhone hardware, along with third party devices is making extraordinary things possible. iPhone users are themselves innovating hardware and methods of filming, and high quality commercial products are emerging far in excess of any other mobile platform. Driving this technology to new heights and new realizations is one of the festival goals – putting ever higher motion picture possibilities in the palm of your hand. iPhone technology is positioned at the leading edge of creative endeavor, and iD will enable amateurs and students the opportunity to learn professional techniques and give them access to a resource base, the outcome of which will be to reveal emerging talent and content. Professional contestants will also be able to showcase their material to a global market through a cutting edge portal. And finally, our global village is becoming smaller each day. iD will offer glimpses into a new world of film making and communication.
HOW DOES THE FESTIVAL WORK?
Participants select the category they wish to enter their work in, and register online. Production must be undertaken within the allotted time, with the final work submitted by the closing date. During the production, participants must follow the production criteria, uploading their production stills, updating their blog, which serves as evidence of the use of iPhone as the capture medium. Work may be edited externally of the iPhone to allow the addition of effects and sound track. Students, Amateurs and Professionals may enter work in the categories.
of: INTEVIEW SHORT FILM, SURF FILM, DOCUMENTARY, MUSIC VIDEO & ADVERTISEMENTTo ensure maximum transparency and fairness, each category is peer voted, with each participant within the category receiving one vote, which cannot be for their own work. The top five peer‐judged works will then be submitted to an industry panel of experts to determine the winners. The top five works will also be open for voting by the premiere viewers, resulting in an audience voted winner and additional prize. The culmination of the festival is a global, 2 day premiere, allowing time for viewing and voting for all views across the time zones.
WHAT PRIZES ARE ON OFFER?
Prizes are geared to the participant, with amateurs and students vying for industry courses and master classes, iPhone film equipment, exposure and opportunities to premiere their work in film festivals world wide, and even a gold iPhone. Professionals vie for a valuable production and post package enabling them to fast track their project, and a Gold Credit Card to cover production expenses.
HOW IS THE AUDIENCE ENGAGED?
Competing participants are encouraged to produce as professional quality results as possible, revealing aspects of cultures from around the world. The audience will view high quality work which is entertaining, engaging, educating and passionate. As contestants produce their work, viewers will follow the productions around the world on location and on set, whether it be a backyard, a kitchen or a professional studio. The audience will make the connection between the creativity‐enabling products, and may make purchases for themselves or their friends and family to inspire creative work, and even to prepare for the next iD festival.

Ideas were developed only to design stage as to what the web site would look like as a concept and some of the facilities and applications it could offer, below is an example of how the site and or elements could be used to make the festival an really exciting online event.

While thinking of advertising concepts coming up with a campaign was lots of fun, the idea started off incorporating the background of amazing places and situations into the screen of the phone, then the idea developed into making the backgrounds black and white and colour on the screen to bring the focus on the phone and the idea that it brings the colour into life.
p r e s s
These concepts were designed to stimulate people who have like minded interests in particular genres of life, The idea was to also offer the opportunity of having the designs made into skins which can also protect and cover the iphone. See below for some exa

As previously mentioned an array of cases can be made and given to people who enter the competition and or win certain divisions, The skins can also be used to promote films, business and much more. Think of the skin as a blank canvas for which to create anything the mind can think. I designed these to get the ball rolling, and to also see if some of the manufactures of iphone skins was interested in making them any way, but despite the designs I didn't get any bites.
